GWK Statue

The Bali attraction GWK Cultural Park, with the Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue, is located in the southern part of Bali island (the limestone plateau of Unggasan Hill, Jimbaran), close to Uluwatu Temple and Dreamland beach where the Cultural Park is an art and culture window of Bali. The statue, Garuda Kencana, is made by the native Balinese artist Nyoman Nuart. Garuda Wisnu Kencana is a name for the Hindu God Wisnu – who rides his mystical half man/half bird companion with the name Garuda. The statue were planned to reach height 172 meters and were made with the mission to become one of 8th the world miracles and 2nd in Indonesia.

Uluwatu Temple

Uluwatu Temple, Ulu in Balinese mean heart, Watu it’s mean stone. This temple built in 11th century by Javanese priest Empu Kuturan or well known with Empu Raja Kerta. Uluwatu Temple, or Pura Luhur Uluwatu, one of six key temples believed to be Bali’s spiritual pillars, The temple located in south western tip of Peninsula, up to the blue sea cliff approximately 100 meters high, the best place to view of the sunset. in 16 century another Javanese priest Danghyang Nirartha visit this temple and add more building, he retreated to this temple for his final life, when he attained Moksa or freedom. Kecak and Fire Dance

“Chark-a, chark-a, chark-a, chark-a”, and on… the chat goes. Almost hypnotic, trance-like, the thirty or so barechested Indonesian men sway with the rhythm. They’re sitting on the ground in a circle – and in the middle the drama is unfolding. Two young princes, a demon king, a damsel in distress, a mischievous monkey. They all play their parts in the ring of unceasing cantillation. The nightly performance is very popular here at Uluwatu. Buses bring the tourists from the resorts of Bali down to the southern tip of the island in time for sunset, when the show begins. Through the paths of the temple and past the clifftops with their views across the ocean, everyone walks, until you finally get to the stage.

The performance is called a “Kecak Dance”, an onomatopoeic title for the sound of the chant. it’s based on a traditional Balinese ritual but was actually created by a German man in the 1930s and based on the famous epic Hindu story of the Ramayana.
